Keeping Water Out with Sika Waterproofing in Boston

When concrete meets water, the membrane between them has to work. Sika builds waterproofing systems that handle foundation walls, plaza decks, balconies, and any wet-zone application where water intrusion means failure. We're a Sika-system installer, which means we follow Sika's full specification for substrate prep, primer, membrane application, and protection detail. That system-level compliance is what makes the warranty real. Call for a free written estimate.

Why Sika

The Sika Approach to Waterproofing Concrete

Sika's waterproofing portfolio spans over 100 years of membrane engineering. The range includes sheet membranes for below-grade work (foundations, basement walls), liquid-applied systems for detail-heavy areas (corners, penetrations, tight spaces), hybrid plaza-deck assemblies rated for foot and vehicle traffic, and specialized coatings for wet rooms and balconies. Each product is matched to the exposure and substrate condition.

We install as a Sika-system specialist, meaning every step from substrate cleaning through protection layer follows Sika's published specification. That adherence is what activates the system warranty. A product warranty covers material defects; a system warranty covers the entire installation method, which is what matters on long-term commercial work.

On projects with multiple Sika services, we coordinate Sika crack injection for pre-existing cracks, Sika repair mortars for substrate conditioning, and Sika floor systems where the waterproofing integrates with a finished floor. For residential foundation waterproofing, see foundation waterproofing and basement waterproofing.

How it works

Installing Sika Waterproofing Step by Step

  1. Assess the substrate and select the system

We evaluate the concrete surface, exposure conditions, and project sequencing to choose the right Sika product: SikaProof sheet for backfilled walls, Sikalastic liquid for detail work, or a plaza-deck hybrid for traffic-exposed areas.

  2. Prepare the concrete per Sika spec

The slab or wall is cleaned to remove dust and contaminants, existing cracks are repaired with compatible material, joint areas are isolated, and moisture testing confirms readiness before any primer is applied.

  3. Apply primer and membrane to specification

Sika primer is rolled or sprayed onto the prepped concrete, then the selected membrane (sheet or liquid) is applied to the engineered thickness, with all corners, joints, and penetrations detailed per Sika's technical requirements.

  4. Install protection and document the system

Where required, a protection layer (drainage board, screed, or traffic surface) is installed over the membrane. The completed system is documented for warranty purposes and handed off with full Sika system paperwork.

System vs. product

Why Sika System Warranty Matters More

A product warranty covers the membrane material itself. A system warranty covers the entire installation: substrate prep, primer selection, application thickness, joint detail, protection layer, and curing conditions. Sika's system warranty is only valid when a Sika-system installer follows Sika's specification. That's us.

On commercial projects where the waterproofing has to perform for decades, the system warranty is the real protection. It means Sika stands behind not just the membrane, but the way it was installed. We integrate other Sika services as needed: repair and restoration for substrate prep, floor systems for finished surfaces, and waterproofing for the membrane itself.

Common questions

Sika Waterproofing Questions, Answered

SikaProof vs Sikalastic, plaza decks, warranty and substrate prep.

SikaProof is a pre-applied sheet membrane for substrates that will be backfilled (foundation walls before backfill, blindside walls in tight excavations). Sikalastic is a liquid-applied membrane for tight detail work, plaza decks, balconies. We pick based on project specifics.
Yes, Sika has plaza-deck systems engineered for traffic-exposed waterproofing with protective wear surfaces. We install the full system including the protection layer that handles traffic without compromising the membrane.
System when installed by a Sika-system installer to Sika spec. That extends warranty beyond product replacement to cover install integrity, which is what commercial customers actually need.
Specific prep per system: surface cleanliness, moisture limits, crack repair, joint detail. The Sika spec defines the exact requirements; we follow them because skipping prep voids the system warranty.
Depends on system and area. Foundation walls can be done in days; plaza-deck systems with multiple layers stretch longer. The full schedule is in the quote.
