Built to last decades

How Foundation Concrete Gets Built in Boston

The footing is where everything starts. We excavate down to stable soil, confirm bearing capacity, then form and reinforce the footing to the engineer's size and depth. The concrete is placed and consolidated so there are no voids, then cured before the walls go up.

Walls follow the same discipline. Straight forms, rebar tied to spec, concrete placed in lifts and vibrated to eliminate air pockets. Once cured, we apply waterproofing membrane to the exterior, install weeping tile for drainage, and backfill carefully so nothing shifts.

For basement waterproofing, we excavate the wall, seal any cracks in the concrete, apply a proper membrane, and restore drainage so groundwater flows away instead of into the slab. Concrete work done this way stays sound for generations.

The sequence

Foundation Concrete Installation Step by Step

  1. Site prep and soil check

We excavate to the depth on the drawings, verify the bearing soil, and confirm elevations and layout before ordering concrete.

  2. Form and reinforce

Footings and walls are formed straight, rebar is tied to the engineer's pattern, and the work is inspected and approved before any concrete arrives.

  3. Place and finish

Concrete is poured in lifts, vibrated to remove air, and finished level. Footings cure before walls are poured on top.

  4. Waterproof and drain

Forms are stripped, exterior walls are sealed with waterproof membrane, weeping tile is installed, and backfill is compacted in layers.

When concrete fails

Catching Foundation Cracks Early Saves Money Later

A hairline crack in the basement corner or a door that sticks are early warnings. Crack repair seals those small breaks before water finds them and frost widens them into structural problems.

If movement has progressed further, foundation repair addresses the root cause, whether settlement, poor soil, or load shift. Underpinning deepens or widens a footing that was never adequate. Pairing repair with waterproofing ensures the fix holds and the basement stays dry.

Questions answered

Foundation Concrete Questions in Boston

Installation, repair, waterproofing and what foundation work involves.

Yes. Foundation installation is formed, reinforced and poured to the structural engineer's drawings, footing size, wall thickness, rebar and mix design, and is ready for inspection before the pour.
Watch for stair-step or horizontal cracks, bowing walls, doors and windows that stick, sloping floors or a damp basement corner. Any of those is worth a look, and crack repair early is far cheaper than structural repair later.
Yes. Foundation waterproofing excavates the affected wall, addresses the cracks, applies a proper waterproof membrane and restores drainage and weeping tile so groundwater is carried away instead of pushing in.
Underpinning extends a foundation deeper or wider when the original footing cannot carry the load, common when adding a storey, lowering a basement, or correcting a footing on poor soil.
Yes. We pour footings and foundation walls for additions, tied in or isolated from the existing foundation as the engineer specifies, and matched so the addition settles with the house, not against it.

Footings and a foundation wall for a two-storey addition. Poured to the engineer's drawings, passed inspection first try, and they sent photos at every stage.

Had a crack that leaked every spring. They excavated the wall, sealed it properly and redid the weeping tile. Bone dry through the next melt.

Underpinning to lower our basement. Careful, methodical work, and they explained every step so we understood what was happening under the house.

Caught a few small cracks early on their assessment and sealed them before winter. Honest about what needed doing now versus what could wait.
