Backyard Concrete Built to Last Through Boston Winters

A kitchen counter, fire-pit pad, and pool deck all need to survive freeze-thaw cycles and heavy use. We design these surfaces as one connected slab system, finished to match your home and patio, with proper drainage and air-entrained concrete that won't crack. Every project includes a free written estimate and a firm completion date.

Design strategy

Why Outdoor Living Concrete Works Best as One Project

A backyard that feels cohesive starts with concrete poured as a system, not as separate pieces added over time. When a kitchen counter is poured one year and a fire-pit pad the next, the finishes rarely match, the elevations don't align, and seams become visible scars.

We map the entire yard first: where the kitchen counter sits, how the fire-pit pad relates to seating, how the pool deck drains away from the house. All surfaces get the same finish, colour, and texture so they read as one continuous slab.

The structural work matters just as much. We excavate to proper depth, compact the base, use air-entrained concrete, and place control joints on a grid. This is what keeps a high-value outdoor space from heaving or cracking when the ground freezes. It is the same care we bring to every residential concrete project on the property.

The sequence

How We Construct Outdoor Living Concrete in Boston

  1. Site survey and layout

We measure the yard, identify drainage patterns, and mark where each surface sits relative to the house, pool, and existing patio.

  2. Excavate and prepare base

Each area is dug to depth, graded for slope, and compacted with granular fill so water sheds away from the structure.

  3. Form, pour, and finish

We set forms, pour air-entrained concrete, and finish all surfaces with the same texture and colour so they appear as one unified slab.

  4. Joint, cure, and seal

Control joints are cut on grid, the concrete cures properly, and a sealer is applied to protect against weather and freeze-thaw damage.

What gets poured

The Four Pieces of Outdoor Living Concrete

Most Boston backyards benefit from a combination of surfaces. An outdoor kitchen requires a solid, level counter and prep pad that can handle food prep and weather. A fire pit or fire table needs a non-combustible base sized to the seating arrangement around it.

A pool deck faces the harshest conditions: wet feet, chlorine, sun exposure, and Massachusetts freeze-thaw. We finish it with a slip-resistant texture and slope it for drainage. When an existing deck is structurally sound but worn, pool deck resurfacing refreshes the surface without a full tear-out and replacement.

Common questions

Outdoor Living Concrete Questions, Answered

Designing, pouring and caring for outdoor kitchens, fire pits and pool decks in Boston.

We pour the hard surfaces of a backyard, outdoor kitchen counters and pads, fire-pit pads, and pool decks, plus resurfacing for decks that are sound but dated.
It usually should. Designing the kitchen, fire pit, deck and pathways as one plan means the finishes, colours and elevations match and there are no awkward seams between separate pours added over different years.
Not when it is finished for the job. We use broom, exposed-aggregate or textured finishes that stay slip-resistant wet, and we plan drainage so water runs off the deck instead of pooling.
Yes. A properly built concrete pad is non-combustible and the right base for a fire pit or fire table. We size the pad to the seating area and build it on a compacted base like any other slab.
If the deck is structurally sound, resurfacing lays a fresh, slip-resistant finish over it for far less than a tear-out. We confirm the slab is sound on the free estimate first.

★★★★★

Did the outdoor kitchen counter, a fire-pit pad and the surrounding patio as one project. Everything matches because they planned it together from the start.

Pool deck drains exactly the way they promised and it is not slippery underfoot. Survived its first winter with no cracking or lifting.

Resurfaced our old pool deck rather than ripping it out. New finish, slip-resistant, and it cost a fraction of what a replacement would have.

The fire-table pad is sized perfectly for our seating and the colour ties into the patio. They thought about the whole yard, not just the one piece.
