When Your Boston Foundation Repair Needs Structural Work
Cracks, bowing, settlement, and leaning walls signal that the slab or footing is failing under load or water pressure. Boston Concrete identifies the root cause, then rebuilds the structure to hold. For deeper issues, underpinning extends the footing. Every job begins with a free, no-obligation site assessment.
- Identify the root cause first
- Structural-grade repair, not cosmetic fixes
- Free written estimate, no obligation
Symptoms vs. root cause
Why Foundation Repair Must Go Deeper Than the Crack
A horizontal crack in a basement wall, a corner that has settled, a wall that leans inward, these are all visible signs of a deeper problem. The actual failure is usually one of three: groundwater pressure pushing from outside, a footing that was never sized correctly for the load, or original construction that skipped reinforcement where it was needed.
We assess which one is happening before recommending a fix. Filling a crack on a wall that is bowing inward just hides the problem; relieving the soil pressure outside is what solves it. That might mean installing foundation waterproofing and drainage, or it might mean underpinning to deepen a footing that is too shallow.
Small surface cracks often respond to crack repair and sealing before they grow. Structural cracks need engineered reinforcement and sometimes wall bracing before the house above shifts further. The free assessment tells you which path your foundation needs.
The repair sequence
How We Repair Failing Foundations in Boston
-
Assess the failure mode
We examine cracks, wall tilt, sticking doors and windows, and the exterior soil and drainage to determine whether the cause is water, footing failure, or missing reinforcement.
-
Excavate and expose
For exterior repairs we dig down to the affected section of the foundation, confirming the depth and extent of damage visually before we specify the structural fix.
-
Reinforce and rebuild
Structural repair includes adding rebar and concrete to failed walls, injecting cracks with structural-grade material, or extending footings via underpinning to address the cause.
-
Waterproof and backfill
Repaired areas get waterproofing, drainage is installed or upgraded, and backfill is placed carefully to avoid loading the repair before it cures.
Repair and waterproofing go together
Structural Repair Plus Waterproofing Solves the Problem
Most foundation repairs include waterproofing because water was usually the cause of the failure in the first place. We do not consider a repair complete without stopping the water that got the foundation into trouble, otherwise the same failure returns in a few years.
Foundation waterproofing and weeping tile upgrades work hand-in-hand with repair. Crack repair handles smaller surface issues. Underpinning handles structural problems that go deeper than the wall itself.

Foundation Repair Questions, Answered
Diagnosis, structural repair, waterproofing pairing and underpinning for failing foundations in Boston.
Diagnosed the cause as water pressure plus an undersized weeping tile. Fixed the drainage and the wall. Two springs since with no recurrence. Repair, not patch.
Bowing basement wall properly reinforced and the soil pressure addressed outside. Wall is straight, basement is dry, the house feels solid again.
Honest that part of the foundation needed underpinning, not just repair. Did both as needed, explained exactly why. No upsell, just the right fix.
Sticking doors went back to working normally after the repair settled. They had explained why that would happen and it did. Confidence inspiring.
