Mapei Concrete Systems Built for Boston Renovations

When a floor needs to be dead flat, waterproofed and finished in one material family, Mapei is the system we reach for. Self-leveling underlayments, waterproofing membranes and repair adhesives all engineered to bond together, no mixing brands mid-job. We install Mapei to the published spec so the warranty stays intact and the slab performs as designed. Call for a free written estimate.

The Mapei approach

How Mapei Concrete Systems Solve Renovation Floors

A renovation floor has to be flat, dry and ready for whatever finish the homeowner picks. Mapei handles all three. The self-leveling underlayment (Ultraplan, Novoplan) gets the slab to tolerance without shimming, the waterproofing membrane seals wet areas, and the repair and adhesive line patches damaged concrete and bonds tile or vinyl to the slab.

What makes Mapei different is that all three products are from the same chemistry family. The primer designed for Mapei self-leveler bonds to the Mapei waterproofing, which bonds to the Mapei thinset under the tile. No guessing whether layer A will stick to layer B. That same system thinking guides our epoxy garage floor and Sika concrete work.

The result is a floor that stays flat, stays dry and stays bonded. We document every step so you have the data sheets and the warranty is clear.

Installation sequence

How We Sequence Mapei Concrete in Boston

  1. Assess the slab and pick the Mapei line

We measure moisture, check for cracks and damage, and confirm what finish will go on top. That tells us which Mapei products to use and in what order.

  2. Profile, test and prime the substrate

The concrete slab is mechanically profiled to open the surface, moisture-tested to Mapei spec, and primed with the Mapei primer that matches the next layer.

  3. Mix and apply the Mapei system

Self-leveler, waterproofing or repair goes down at the temperature and water ratio the Mapei spec calls for, in the sequence the system requires.

  4. Cure, document and hand off

Each layer cures to the published Mapei schedule. We photograph the work, collect the data sheets and give you the documentation for warranty and future reference.

Why chemistry matters

Mapei Concrete Bonding Across Layers

Most floor failures start at a layer boundary. The primer does not bond to the leveler, the leveler does not bond to the waterproofing, or the waterproofing does not bond to the tile adhesive. Each gap is a place where the floor can fail.

Mapei removes that risk by engineering every product to bond to the product above and below it. The Ultraplan self-leveler is designed to bond to Mapei primer and Mapei tile adhesive. The waterproofing membrane is designed to bond to Mapei leveler and Mapei thinset. This is the same discipline we apply to Ardex systems and Mapei repair products.

When you choose one product family, you get one warranty, one technical support line and one set of installation rules. That simplicity is worth the commitment.

Common questions

Mapei Concrete Questions, Answered

Self-leveling, waterproofing, system compatibility and what Mapei does best in Boston.

Mapei Ultraplan and Novoplan are tested, predictable products with deep installer support. They pour to a flat, sound surface that takes a finish without telegraphing the slab below, which is exactly what a renovation needs.
Yes, that is one of its strengths. Mapei waterproofing membranes are designed to bond into Mapei thinset and tile adhesives, so the wet-area floor is one continuous system instead of a stack of unrelated layers.
Because every layer boundary is a place where bond failure can happen. Using a single product family means primer, leveler, waterproofing and adhesive are engineered to work together, removing the surprise bond issues.
Yes, when prep is done right. Mapei repair and adhesive products bond patched and existing concrete back to performance spec when the substrate is mechanically profiled and primed correctly.
Yes. We install the published Mapei system, primer, body, finish, in the correct sequence and at the temperature and mix ratio the spec calls for, so the product warranty stays intact.
