Concrete Outdoor Kitchen Pads Built for Grills

Grills, stone counters, and entertaining guests all add weight and demand a level, durable concrete pad. Boston Concrete designs and pours the cooking station, cast-in-place counters, and outdoor-grade finishes that stand up to Massachusetts seasons. Free written estimate included.

Engineered for load

Why Outdoor Kitchen Concrete Demands Proper Design

A built-in grill alone can weigh 400 to 600 pounds. Add a stone countertop, a refrigerator, a sink, and the total load climbs fast. The concrete pad underneath must be thick enough, reinforced properly, and poured on a compacted base that won't settle or shift under that weight over time.

We excavate to grade, compact the subbase, set forms at the correct slope and elevation, and pour a slab with the rebar and thickness the actual load requires. The perimeter is detailed so the kitchen anchors securely and water sheds away from the house. Counters are either cast in place over the pad or pre-cast and installed, both finished to resist staining, UV, and freeze-thaw.

Most outdoor kitchens connect to surrounding concrete. The patio nearby, a pool deck, or a fire pit area all benefit from being poured as one integrated project. Finishes match, slopes align, and the kitchen reads as part of the yard. Explore the full outdoor living approach.

The sequence

How Outdoor Kitchen Concrete Gets Built in Boston

  1. Measure and plan the layout

We visit the site, measure the space, understand where the grill sits, how the counter runs, and what utilities (gas, water, electrical) need to be embedded in the concrete before the pour.

  2. Excavate and prepare the base

The cooking-station area is dug out, the soil is compacted in lifts, and forms are set at the finished height and slope so water runs away from the house and the pad stays level.

  3. Place rebar and pour the slab

Reinforcement is laid to carry the grill and counter loads, embeds for gas, water, and electrical are positioned, and the concrete is poured and finished to the specified profile and texture.

  4. Finish and cure the counters

Counters are cast in place or installed pre-cast, sealed with an outdoor-grade product, and the concrete cures to schedule before the grill, stone, and appliances are installed.

Integrated design

Outdoor Kitchen Concrete Works Best as Part of the Whole Yard

An outdoor kitchen is rarely a standalone feature. It connects to the patio where guests gather, the pool deck for poolside entertaining, and often a fire pit for evening seating.

When the kitchen, patio, and pool deck are designed and poured together, the finishes match, the elevations flow, and the whole yard reads as one cohesive outdoor living space. This integrated approach is the foundation of all our outdoor living projects.

Common questions

Outdoor Kitchen Concrete Questions, Answered

Counters, pads, weight, integration and outdoor-grade finish for Boston backyards.

Yes, when poured outdoor-grade and sealed properly. Outdoor concrete counters use an air-entrained mix, are detailed for water shedding, and get a sealer rated for UV, weather and food contact where needed.
Yes, usually. Built-in grills can weigh several hundred pounds before stone or counters, and the pad needs reinforcement and proper thickness for that load plus the people using the kitchen. We size it to the actual installed weight.
We pour the concrete and coordinate with the trades, plumber, electrician, gas fitter, who handle the connections. Embeds and chase routes are placed in the concrete before the pour so the trades can land cleanly.
Yes, when it is designed as part of the wider outdoor living concrete. Matching the finish, colour and elevations to the patio and pool deck around it makes the kitchen read as part of the yard, not a separate feature.
Yes. The pad and counter pour into or onto the existing patio with proper bonding and a separate footing for the heavier loads. We assess the existing concrete to confirm it can carry the addition.

★★★★★

Built-in grill on a level pad with a wrap-around counter. Two summers of cooking and entertaining and the pad has not moved, the counter has not stained, the sealer is still beading water.

Designed the kitchen as part of the patio and pool-deck project. Everything matches, the finish reads as one continuous outdoor space, exactly what we pictured.

Coordinated the gas and electrical with the trades, embeds where they needed them. Trades had nothing to complain about. Kitchen runs perfect.

Counter cast in place to match the existing patio finish. The seam is invisible and the counter feels solid as a rock under the granite slab we put on top.
