Concrete Pool Decks in Boston

A pool deck takes more wear than almost any other slab on the property, wet feet, splash, sun, chlorine, freeze-thaw. Boston Concrete pours pool decks with slip-resistant finish, proper drainage away from the pool and the house, and the air-entrained mix and joints that survive Massachusetts winters. Every deck starts with a free written estimate.

Wet feet and freeze-thaw

What a Pool Deck Has to Survive

A pool deck gets wet every time the pool is used. People walk on it barefoot, chlorinated water splashes onto it, sun bakes it dry, and Massachusetts freeze-thaw cycles it dozens of times a winter. A slab built like a normal patio fails fast in that environment.

We pour pool decks with an air-entrained mix for freeze-thaw, a deliberate slope away from the pool coping and away from the house, and a slip-resistant finish, broom, exposed-aggregate or textured stamped, so the deck stays grippy under bare wet feet.

It usually pairs with the rest of the outdoor concrete on the property, the pool shell, an outdoor kitchen for poolside cooking, and the patio off the house. Designed and poured together, the whole outdoor space reads as one project.

How it works

How We Build a Pool Deck in Boston

  1. Plan slope and drainage

We confirm the deck shape, the slope away from the pool coping and the house, the deck drain locations if any, and how runoff is carried off the property properly.

  2. Excavate pool-deck base

The deck area is excavated to depth and a compacted granular base is built, with forms set to the finished slope and the perimeter detailed so the deck ties cleanly into the pool shell.

  3. Pour, slope and texture deck

Air-entrained concrete is placed, screeded to the planned slope, and finished slip-resistant, broom for the standard look, exposed-aggregate for decorative grip, or textured stamped for a hardscape feel.

  4. Cure and tie into pool shell

Control joints are cut on layout including the perimeter joint between deck and pool, the deck is cured, and the surface is sealed before swimming season opens.

More than just the deck

Pool Deck + Yard Designed Together

A pool deck on its own works fine. A pool deck designed as part of the yard's concrete is what makes a backyard great. Pouring the pool deck alongside the outdoor kitchen, a fire-pit pad and the patio off the house gets all the elevations, slopes and finishes lined up as one design.

If you already have a pool deck that is dated but sound, pool deck resurfacing brings it back without a tear-out. Either way, the wider outdoor living services tie it all together.

Common questions

Pool Deck Concrete Questions, Answered

Slip resistance, drainage, freeze-thaw and how pool decks tie into the yard in Boston.

A slip-resistant finish, broom for the standard practical look, exposed-aggregate for decorative grip, or textured stamped for a hardscape feel. We avoid smooth trowel finishes outside, especially around water.
Yes, when poured with an air-entrained mix, proper drainage and control joints on layout, then sealed. The same fundamentals that make a concrete driveway work for decades make a pool deck last too.
A deliberate cross-slope of about two percent, away from both the pool coping and the house. We set the slope into the base and forms before the pour so the finished surface drains cleanly to the right places, never towards the foundation.
Yes. We tie the new deck into the existing pool coping with a proper expansion joint at the perimeter and the right slope away from the pool. The handoff is detailed so the deck and the pool work together long-term.
Yes, and ideally it does. Matching the finish, colour and elevations to the patio, walkways and any outdoor kitchen makes the whole backyard read as one space rather than separate pours.
