New Foundation Installation in Boston for Homes & Additions

Footings and walls that hold for decades start with precision. We excavate to bearing soil, form and reinforce to the engineer's spec, pour and cure on schedule, then waterproof before backfill. One crew handles the whole sequence from site survey through final inspection. Free written estimate, firm price.

  • Excavated to bearing soil
  • Reinforced per engineer spec
  • Waterproofed before backfill

What gets built below grade

Precision in Foundation Installation Prevents Years of Trouble

A foundation that settles unevenly, cracks early, or leaks will cost far more to fix than it cost to build right the first time. The slab sits out of sight, but every structural problem above it traces back to what happened below.

We start by confirming the bearing soil against the geotechnical report, then excavate to the depth the engineer specified. Footings are formed, reinforced with rebar tied to drawing, and poured without voids. Walls go up on top, formed straight and true, with embeds for plumbing and electrical placed before the pour. Every stage is inspected before the next one begins. The concrete cures on the engineer's schedule, and only then does backfill go against the wall.

For additions, the new slab must tie or isolate from the existing footing exactly as the engineer designed it, so the old and new structures move as one unit. That detail is what separates a successful addition from one that cracks at the joint. Our foundation crack repair work shows what happens when that step is skipped. The same rigor applies to all our foundation work and the broader residential concrete we install.

The sequence

How Foundation Installation Unfolds in Boston

  1. Site survey and layout

We stake out the footing and wall positions from the engineer's drawings, confirm the bearing soil depth against the geotechnical report, and mark the excavation limits.

  2. Excavate and inspect

Footing trenches are dug to the specified depth, the bearing soil is exposed and inspected, and any over-excavation is backfilled and compacted before forming starts.

  3. Form, reinforce, and pour footing

Footing forms are set, rebar is tied to drawing, the concrete is placed and vibrated to consolidate, then the footing cures before wall forming begins.

  4. Form, pour, and strip walls

Wall forms are erected plumb and straight, rebar is tied through with all embeds in place, the wall is poured and consolidated, and forms are stripped on schedule before backfill.

Protection before backfill

Waterproofing and Drainage Complete the Installation

A new concrete slab is porous. Groundwater will find its way through unless the exterior is sealed and drainage is in place. Foundation waterproofing and weeping tile are not optional extras, they are part of the install.

We apply waterproofing to the wall before backfill goes in, and lay weeping tile at the footing to carry groundwater away from the structure. Done at the time of installation, these steps cost far less than fixing a wet basement later. The same principle applies to the basement floor that sits inside the foundation.

Common questions

Foundation Installation Questions, Answered

Drawings, footings, additions and waterproofing handoff for new foundations in Boston.

Yes. Every new foundation install is built to the structural engineer's drawings, footing sizes, wall thicknesses, rebar layouts, mix designs, and is ready for inspection at each stage before concrete is ordered or backfill goes in.
Yes. Additions usually require the new foundation to tie in or isolate from the existing footing per the engineer's design, so the new structure settles with the house rather than against it. We pour to that detail.
Below the frost line, which is typically several feet in Boston, and confirmed against the engineer's geotechnical info. The exact depth depends on the soil, the load and the local code requirements; the drawings specify it.
Yes, as part of installation. Foundation waterproofing and weeping tile go on before backfill, protecting the new structure from groundwater for the long haul.
It depends on the size, the soil, the engineering and access. We put exact numbers in a written, itemised quote after reviewing the drawings and walking the site, so the price is firm against the actual project.
