Tailored Concrete Countertops for Boston Kitchens

Concrete countertops let you build the exact surface your kitchen or bath needs. Choose the color, edge profile, finish level, and any inlays or integrated features. Boston Concrete casts them two ways: in-place on your cabinetry for seamless runs, or shop-cast and installed once fully cured. Both methods deliver a food-safe, sealed surface ready for daily use. Why concrete works

When Concrete Countertops Beat Stone or Laminate

Concrete is not a substitute for stone. It is a different material with different strengths. Stone comes in fixed slabs with fixed edges; concrete gets poured to your exact dimensions, your chosen color, your preferred edge detail, and any inlays you want. If you need a drainboard cast into the surface, or a custom edge that matches your cabinetry, or glass and stone inlays, concrete is the only way to get it.

The casting method matters. Cast-in-place means the form sits on your cabinets, the concrete pours and cures in the kitchen, then gets ground and sealed there. This works best for long runs and integrated features. Shop-cast means we build and cure the slab in our facility, then install it in pieces. This keeps your kitchen cleaner during the build and works well for islands and vanities. We recommend the right method based on your space and timeline.

Our polished concrete floors and outdoor countertops follow the same logic. Every concrete surface we cast gets engineered for its specific use, sealed properly, and backed by a maintenance plan so it performs for years.

The sequence

How We Build Indoor Concrete Counters in Boston

  1. On-site template and design lock

We measure the cabinetry, mark every sink cutout, cooktop opening, faucet hole, and corner. You pick the edge profile (square, eased, ogee), the color, the finish (matte, satin, polished), and any inlays. Nothing moves forward until the design is locked in writing.

  2. Build forms and place reinforcement

Forms are constructed to match the template exactly, with the edge profile inverted on the bottom for cast-in-place work or the top for shop-cast. Rebar or wire mesh is positioned at the right depth. Color pigment and any decorative inlays are added to the concrete mix.

  3. Pour, cure, and grind the surface

Concrete is placed and vibrated to remove air, then left to cure on schedule. Once cured, the surface is ground with progressively finer grits, then honed or polished to the finish level you chose. This is where the concrete reveals its true color and character.

  4. Seal and hand off the maintenance plan

A food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use is applied. You get a written maintenance schedule (typically re-seal every 2-3 years) and care instructions so the countertop stays protected and looking new through daily use.

Real-world performance

Sealed Concrete Handles Kitchen Spills and Heat

A concrete countertop is a working surface. It sits under hot pans, gets cut on, gets spilled on, and gets wiped down every day. The sealer is what protects it. A properly sealed concrete top resists staining from coffee, wine, and oil. Ignored or re-sealed late, even the best concrete can pick up marks. We are direct about this on every project because the maintenance matters as much as the install.

Kitchens with heavy daily use get a different sealer recommendation than guest baths. We factor that into the quote and the long-term plan. The same approach applies to all our residential concrete work, whether it is a garage floor epoxy or a concrete patio. The spec is only half the story. The maintenance plan is the other half.

Common questions

Indoor Concrete Countertop Questions, Answered

Cast-in-place vs shop-cast, sealers, food-safety, maintenance and edge profiles.

Cast-in-place is best for long integrated runs, integrated drainboards and seamless looks; shop-cast is best when the kitchen has to stay clean during construction and the pieces can be lifted into place. We recommend based on your kitchen and timeline.
Yes, when sealed with a food-safe sealer rated for kitchen use and maintained on the recommended re-seal schedule. Concrete itself is inert; the sealer is what stands between the surface and the spills, and it is what gets refreshed every few years.
Properly designed and cured concrete countertops do not crack in normal use. We engineer reinforcement and joints for the size and use of each top; hairline crazing in the surface is a normal characteristic of concrete and part of the look, not a structural issue.
Yes. Custom edge profiles (square, eased, ogee), inlays (glass, stone, wood), and integrated cast-in sinks are all options. Most of what makes a custom concrete countertop worth choosing over stone is the ability to do those things.
From template to install is typically several weeks because casting and curing are time-bound; the in-kitchen disruption itself is shorter, often just install day for shop-cast or a few days for cast-in-place. Full timeline is on the quote.

Honest that concrete tops need re-sealing every few years and counted that into the quote. Better than pretending it would never need any care. The counter still looks new after two years.

Custom edge profile that matched our cabinetry detail exactly. Could not get that anywhere else. The kitchen looks designed, not assembled. Worth every dollar.
