Keeping Water Out of Boston Basements and Decks
Ardex waterproofing membranes stop water intrusion in below-grade spaces, plaza decks, and wet-room environments. We install the full Ardex system, substrate prep, primer, membrane application, and protection layers, because waterproofing only works when every component is engineered together. Free written estimate on every project.

Why systems matter
Waterproofing Fails When You Skip Steps
A membrane is only as good as the substrate it bonds to. The primer prepares that surface; the protection layer shields the cured membrane from backfill, foot traffic, or weather. Ardex systems are engineered so each product works with the others, and the warranty depends on installing all of them.
We follow the Ardex protocol because cutting corners on any step, substrate prep, primer selection, membrane thickness, joint detail, or protection, undermines the whole assembly. That is why we spec the full system and why the warranty covers it.
Our other Ardex services use the same system-first approach. When basement waterproofing is part of a larger foundation project, the Ardex membrane integrates into the broader concrete strategy.
Installation sequence
How Ardex Waterproofing Gets Installed
-
Assess and select system
We evaluate the substrate, exposure conditions, and protection requirements to choose the right Ardex system (liquid-applied below-grade, sheet membrane for decks, wet-room assembly, or balcony detail).
-
Prepare the concrete
The slab or wall is cleaned, repaired with compatible Ardex products, and any cracks or voids are addressed before priming. Joint details and penetrations are staged for membrane application.
-
Prime and apply membrane
The matched Ardex primer is rolled or sprayed, then the membrane is applied to specification thickness. Liquid systems are rolled or sprayed; sheet membranes are adhered with engineered overlap and sealed at all seams.
-
Install protection and document
A protection layer (drainage board, screed, or traffic surface) is installed over the cured membrane. We provide warranty documentation and a handoff checklist for the next phase of work.
The detail is everything
Where Waterproofing Membranes Actually Fail
The flat field of membrane rarely leaks. The corner, the wall-to-floor transition, the pipe penetration, the expansion joint, those are where water finds a path. Ardex provides engineered detail products and specifications for every transition, and we install them because that is where the system lives or dies.
If the substrate needs repair before waterproofing, we use Ardex repair mortars to prepare it. For larger foundation waterproofing or basement renovation work, the Ardex membrane is one layer in a coordinated strategy.

Ardex Waterproofing Questions, Answered
System types, joint details, protection layers and warranty.
Below-grade waterproofing on a foundation upgrade. Full Ardex system, every detail to spec, two springs of melt with the basement bone dry. Warranty documentation in our file. Real install.
Plaza deck waterproofing system on a commercial roof terrace. Membrane, drainage board, traffic surface, every layer per Ardex spec. Inspector signed off cleanly, no leak issues since.
Wet-room waterproofing for our locker rooms. Every joint, every penetration detailed per spec. Three years of daily wet operation, zero failures. The detail work is what matters.
They walked through the joint detail before install so we understood why it cost what it cost. The system has held; the up-front spec discussion was worth it.
