Fix Your Boston Patio Without Tearing It Out
Cracks, spalling, faded sealer, and worn surfaces don't always mean your patio slab has failed. Boston Concrete assesses the damage, patches what can be saved, and resurfaces the whole slab when a fresh top coat is the better move. We give you a straight answer on whether repair or replacement makes sense, backed by a free written estimate.

Sound slab, fixable surface
Most Tired Patios Can Be Repaired and Refreshed
A patio that looks worn does not automatically need to be torn out and replaced. If the concrete slab sits level, the base is intact, and the damage is surface-level, repair is the smarter path. Cracks can be sealed before frost widens them, spalled edges can be patched back to profile, and a tired finish can be covered with a thin overlay.
The work typically finishes in one or two days and costs far less than a full replacement. Stamped finishes and exposed aggregate are options if you want a new look, but for most homeowners, sealing and resurfacing the existing slab is the practical choice.
Where repair stops making sense is when the base itself has failed. Heaving, settling, or slabs pulling away from the house are signs the foundation has moved. In those cases, a new patio pour is the honest answer. We assess which situation you are in and recommend accordingly. The same straightforward approach applies to all our residential concrete work.
The repair sequence
How Patio Repair and Resurfacing Gets Done in Boston
-
On-site inspection and diagnosis
We examine the slab for base movement, crack patterns, spalling, and surface wear. You get a clear repair-or-replace recommendation before any quote is written.
-
Saw-cut and remove damaged concrete
For localized damage, we cut clean lines around the problem area, remove the failed section, and prepare the base so new material bonds to sound concrete.
-
Bond repair mortar and reinforce
The prepared area is filled with repair mortar keyed into the edges, reinforcement is added for larger patches, and the material is worked to the right thickness and density.
-
Finish, texture, and cure
The patch is finished to match the surrounding concrete, whether broom, exposed, or stamped. For full resurfacing, an overlay covers the entire slab in one continuous pour and cure.
Overlay and protect
Resurfacing Gives Your Patio A Fresh Finish
When the slab is structurally sound but the surface looks tired across the whole patio, resurfacing is faster and cheaper than spot repairs. A thin concrete overlay goes down over the prepared slab and gives the patio a uniform, fresh appearance without the cost and disruption of a tear-out.
After repair or resurfacing, sealing the concrete protects the surface from water, salt, and UV damage so the work lasts for years. If the assessment shows the patio really cannot be saved, we offer plain concrete, exposed aggregate, and stamped patio options for a complete new pour.

Patio Repair & Resurfacing Questions, Answered
Repair vs replace, cracks, resurfacing and what is honest to fix in Boston.
Resurfaced our old broom-finish patio instead of tearing it out. The new top reads as a brand-new patio and we used the slab through the summer.
Spalled corners at the steps, patched cleanly and colour-matched. No more catching shovels on the broken edges, and the seam is barely visible.
Honest that the back half of the patio had base problems and the front half was sound. Replaced the back, repaired the front, exactly what we agreed on.
Cracks sealed before they could grow. The seal is back on the whole patio and the slab looks easily a decade younger than it did before.
