Concrete Floors Built for Boston Restaurants

Kitchens, wash stations, and dining areas demand different concrete systems. We design and install each zone to handle its specific demands: slip-rated grip in the kitchen, drain-ready wash-down flooring, and polished or coated finishes in front-of-house. One coordinated project, three specialized systems. Free written estimate.

  • Slip-rated kitchen systems
  • Wash-down zones with drainage
  • Polished or coated dining areas

Three zones, three systems

Why Restaurant Concrete Isn't One-Size-Fits-All

A restaurant floor isn't a single problem. The cooking line faces grease, heat, dropped equipment, and constant wet cleaning. The dish station and prep area need sloped concrete that drains standing water without pooling. The dining room and bar are about appearance and foot traffic. Trying to solve all three with one coating or finish leaves each zone compromised.

We map the restaurant's layout with you, identify each zone's actual use, and specify the right concrete system for that zone. Kitchen gets anti-slip flooring with documented slip ratings. Wash areas get sloped epoxy flooring with floor drains. Dining and bar areas get polished concrete or attractive coatings. The transitions between zones are planned and detailed so each system finishes where it should.

This approach applies across all our restaurant and retail work, our broader commercial concrete flooring services, and specialized systems like brewery flooring where chemical and moisture demands are equally demanding.

How We Build Restaurant Concrete Floors

  1. Walk the space and map zones

We tour the restaurant with you and the kitchen designer, mark out each functional area (cooking line, prep, dish, wash, dining, bar, entry), and note the slip-rating and chemical-resistance needs for each.

  2. Specify concrete system per zone

Kitchen gets anti-slip with chemical resistance and documented slip ratings. Wash-down areas get sloped concrete with drain placement. Dining and bar get polished or coated finishes. Transitions are planned at doorways or material changes.

  3. Prep and install the slab

Each zone's concrete slab is diamond-ground to the system's profile, primed, and the coating or finish applied. Aggregate is broadcast where slip resistance is required. Transitions are detailed flush so no trip hazards exist between zones.

  4. Document and hand off care

Each zone gets its own maintenance schedule (cleaning chemicals, scrub frequency, re-seal timing). Kitchen, wash, and dining teams each know exactly how to care for their zone's concrete.

Insurance and compliance

Slip-Rated Concrete Flooring for Insurance

Restaurant slip-and-fall claims are among the costliest incidents in the food-service industry. Insurance carriers require documented slip-rated flooring in kitchen and wash-down zones. We specify and install systems that meet or exceed those ratings, and we provide the documentation so you have what your carrier and inspectors need.

Coordinate early with your kitchen designer and general contractor so the concrete slab, drain placement, and equipment layout all fit together. A well-designed restaurant floor integrates with the rest of the buildout. See our broader commercial flooring work and related healthcare flooring systems for similar coordination approaches.

Common questions

Restaurant Flooring Questions, Answered

Kitchen anti-slip, wash-down systems, front-of-house finishes and insurance requirements.

Because three different environments coexist in one space with different demands. Kitchen needs grip plus chemical resistance, wash-down needs slope plus wet-slip rating, front-of-house needs look plus traffic. One system everywhere compromises all three.
Insurance and industry guidelines define minimum slip ratings for wet and dry conditions. We specify the system to meet or exceed those targets, document the rating, and provide that documentation to your insurance carrier or inspector.
In front-of-house, yes, polished concrete is a strong choice for dining and bar areas. Not in kitchens or wash-down zones, polished concrete is not slip-rated for wet kitchen environments. We use it where it fits and other systems where they fit.
Transitions are planned where it makes sense (often at a doorway or material change), the two systems are detailed to meet flush, and the joint is sealed appropriately. The transition is visible but intentional, not improvised.
Sometimes, where the renovation can be zoned. Kitchen and wash-down work typically requires the kitchen to be down for several days for prep and cure. Front-of-house can sometimes be staged around dining hours. We plan around your operations.

Three different systems for kitchen, wash-down and dining. Insurance accepted the slip ratings, staff feel safer, and the dining room looks the way the designer wanted. Three problems solved at once.
