Tile-Shower Waterproofing with Laticrete Hydro Ban & 9235
When a tile shower or wet room needs a waterproofing membrane, Laticrete Hydro Ban and 9235 are the products tile installers specify. We apply the membrane to engineered thickness, coordinate the matched Laticrete thinset and grout so the whole assembly stays warranted, and hand off to your tile contractor ready for install. Free written estimate, firm schedule.

System integrity
Why Tile Installers Specify Laticrete Waterproofing
A tile shower is only as dry as its waterproofing membrane. Laticrete makes membranes that are engineered to work with Laticrete thinset and grout, so when all three layers are Laticrete, the tile installer's warranty covers the whole assembly. Mix brands at any layer and the warranty path breaks.
Hydro Ban is the standard choice for residential showers and tubs. It applies as a liquid, cures fast, and changes color from teal-blue to olive as it hardens, giving you visual proof that coverage is complete and cure strength is reached. For heavier-duty work like balconies or commercial wet areas, 9235 offers more robust protection.
We prep the substrate per Laticrete spec, apply the membrane at the right thickness, verify cure with the color change, then hand off to your tile installer with a recommendation for matched Laticrete adhesive. Installation sequence
How Laticrete Waterproofing Gets Installed
-
Assess the wet-zone layout
We review the tile plan with you and the tile installer to confirm which Laticrete product fits the application (Hydro Ban for most residential, 9235 for heavier-duty) and lock in the matched thinset and grout for warranty continuity.
-
Prepare substrate per spec
The concrete or substrate is cleaned, cracks and joints are sealed with compatible material, and drain and corner details are prepped for the membrane transition per Laticrete engineering.
-
Prime and apply membrane
Laticrete primer is applied first, then the waterproofing membrane goes down at engineered thickness. Hydro Ban's color shift from teal to olive signals full cure and complete coverage, so we can spot any thin areas and recoat before tile install.
-
Cure and hand off
After cure, the membrane is ready for tile. We provide the tile installer with the Laticrete thinset recommendation so the whole system (waterproofing, adhesive, grout) stays Laticrete and the warranty stays intact.
Built-in quality control
The Color Change That Proves Hydro Ban Is Cured
Hydro Ban's shift from teal-blue to olive-green as it cures is not just a visual cue, it is a built-in quality-control tool. The color change happens when the membrane reaches full cure strength and coverage is complete. We use that feedback to spot any thin or uncured areas and apply a second coat before the tile installer arrives.
This color-coded verification prevents the common problem of tile installers finding uncured spots after they have already started setting tile. By the time we hand off the slab, every square inch has changed color and is ready for thinset. Pair this with Laticrete self-leveling underlayments if the substrate needs flatness work, and review our full brand portfolio for complementary systems.

Common questions
Laticrete Waterproofing Questions, Answered
Hydro Ban vs 9235, tile-system warranty, color-coded cure verification.
They installed Hydro Ban to spec, color-cured properly, ready for my thinset. Whole-Laticrete path warranty intact. The system discipline matters.
Tile shower with Laticrete waterproofing under tile install. Three years dry, no recurrence of the leak issues the previous tile job had. Right system.
The color-coded cure was the difference. Spots they would have called done were still uncured; the second coat fixed it. Real install QC.
Tile install warranty path stayed clean because they installed Laticrete waterproofing under Laticrete thinset under Laticrete grout. Whole assembly warranted.
